What red blooded American hasn't heard the story of Columbus and the subsequent explorers of the "New World?" But, have we stopped to consider the possible connection of the Reformation (began 1517) and these bold seafarers? And what might this exploration and discovery have contributed to the settling of Plymouth and the Massachusetts Bay Colony? And what might the development of these communities contributed to the great spiritual awakening of the mid 18th century? And what might The First Great Awakening have contributed to the principles that gave shape to the United States?
One can easily see the tremendous benefit to studying history chronologically from the beginning of time. It's hard to even imagine that one particular historical event can be adequately understood without the background of the events leading up to it. Have you considered the difficulty of studying the puritan settlements of New England without an understanding of the Reformation? And how do you understand the Reformation without studying Huss, Wycliffe, Augustine, etc.? This pealing back only stops when you get to the beginning creation.
This home teacher manual and accompanying history flashcards and CD is intended to be the fourth in a five series program to teach children the tremendous way that the God of the Bible has been at work throughout all of history redeeming His people. The worksheets, tests, projects, and literature units provided here are intended to make the job of teaching easier. However, don't think of this as a rigid format. The best teachers will always adapt the material to the needs of the student. Be encouraged to do so.
May your efforts contribute significantly to the raising of a godly generation.
