This course on land animals is the third book in the Zoology series and follows Exploring Creation With Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day though its only prerequisite is Exploring Creation With Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day. This is because foundational concepts, such as animal classification, nomenclature, instincts, endangered species, parasites, and other important ideas are explained in the first book. Attainment of this knowledge is assumed in Zoology 3.

What separates people from apes? How can a Great Dane be related to a Chihuahua? Is there evidence that people and dinosaurs lived at the same time? What should you do if you encounter a bear? How can you tell if a snake is poisonous? Come find out answers to these questions and many, many more with Apologia's Exploring Creation with Zoology 3! This book takes students on a safari through jungles, deserts, forests, farms, and even their own backyard to explore, examine and enjoy the enchanting creatures God designed to inhabit the terrain. Families will snuggle together and discover the amazing animals from primates to parasites, kangaroos to caimans, and turtles to terrifying T-Rexs—this safari doesn't end there! Students will also keep a record of where each animal is found on a map and learn to identify animal tracks. As with all the Apologia elementary books, students will continue the practice of narration, keeping a notebook of what they have learned, and enjoy many hands on projects and experiments throughout the course.

"Land Animals of the Sixth Day" is the final volume of the zoology series, and once again Apologia has published a delightful book. Jeannie Fulbright shows her readers the wonders of God's creation and at the same time provides detailed facts and information about land creatures both extinct and alive today. There is so much to praise: the beautiful pictures, exciting projects and experiments, notebooking, review questions, etc.; but my favorite part is the map and track it sections. At the end of each lesson the student is asked to either find a picture of the creatures studied or create one themselves and place it on a world map. This activity not only helps the student remember where the animals studied are typically located, but at the same time provides a brief geography lesson. The track it section is a fun way for the student to be able to integrate what has been learned in the lessons to the world around them: just head out on a hike, locate some animal tracks, and by looking at your notebook figure out what creature has just passed by. One last thing to mention is the course website. Many times the student, and the parent, want to know more or want an update to a topic discussed, and the course website is a great place to start. I heartily recommend this book as it is non only a great science curriculum, but also a fun read in which both children and adults will return again and again.
