Wordly Wise 3000 Vocabulary

This popular series uses a list of 3,000 carefully selected words, taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books to teach vocabulary through reading, writing, and a variety of exercises. The alphabetized word lists contain 15 words each, give parts of speech and concise definitions, and use each word in an interesting sentence to provide a mnemonic anchor. Each lesson is made up of five challenging exercises that help to find meanings and apply them, and show the relationships of words, as well as a narrative followed by questions. The popular crossword puzzles, Hidden Message puzzles, and Wordly Wise sections have been retained from the original Wordly Wise series.

Q. I understand there is now a second edition of these books. What is the difference?
A. In the new edition of Wordly Wise 3000, EPS added books for Kindergarten and 1st grade; combined the A, B & C levels into two books for grades 2 & 3; and renumbered the entire series (e.g. the original Book 1 for grade 4 is now simply Book 4). They also made a variety of cosmetic changes like adding color to pages in the books. Other than that, the books remain very similar. Q. Are there tests for the Wordly Wise 3000 series?
A. EPS no longer offers printed tests on their website. They do offer CD-ROM test generators for each grade, but we do not carry them as their expense (approx. $70-$80 per level) is prohibitive to most home school families and small schools. We can order them; let us know if you are interested.
Q. These are secular. Is there objectionable content?
A. There are a number of sample narratives that come across as very politically correct; you'll find references to environmentalism, feminism and other topics the secularists champion. We haven't heard of anything too obnoxious, but would recommend you screen the narratives and use them as a starting point for discussion, especially in grade 8 and up.
