Historical Setting: The Netherlands, 16th Century

This book continues the story of the Meulenberg family, who have fled persecution in the Netherlands by the Spanish, and are now living as refugees in northwest Germany.

Young Martin (the main character) obtains permission to join the Sea Beggars (a famous Dutch ragtag fleet manned by men on the run from the Spanish occupation) and is part of a very bold plan to drive the occupiers from a coastal town and polder. . .which happens to be Martin's former home.

Following the victorious invasion, Martin visits his family's abandoned farm, which is now under new ownership by a disliked and ruthless man known to spy out adherents of the "new" faith. What now?
