John F. Walvoord

Born on May 1, 1910, Walvoord never found interest in the ways of the Lord until at age fifteen he attended a Bible study at the new church in the community where his family had moved.  This experience forever changed him.  Desiring education, Walvoord spent many years in studying.  He earned an AB and DD degrees from Wheaton College, an AM from Texas Christian University, a ThB, ThM, and ThD from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a LittD from Liberty Baptist Seminary.

While at Dallas Theological Seminary, Walvoord became the registrar and taught systemic theology.  He pastored at a church in Fort Worth but found himself becoming more and more engaged in the administrative workings of the Seminary.  This led to his being an assistant and secretary for the president of the Seminary.  In 1952, when the president passed away, Walvoord took his position and held it until his own retirement in 1986.  Not only a pastor, teacher, and president of Dallas Theological Seminary, Walvoord also wrote over thirty books and co-edited The Bible Knowledge Commentary.  During his lifetime, Walvoord gained much recognition as a Christian theologian before his death on December 20, 2002.
