From the Preface:
THE COLLECTING of the materials for this book was begun nearly fifteen years ago. In the collecting, many regions in the Pacific States have been visited; but there still remain large regions not as yet visited, and a few species are yet to be observed in the field. However, all of the most significant species are described here from actual observation; the rest are described and illustrated from the literature. All species of amphibians and reptiles which occur in the Pacific States (Washington, Oregon, and California) are included, and most of these are illustrated.
