Alexandra Wallner

Born in Germany in 1946, Wallner moved with her family to the United States when she was six years old.  In order to learn English, she read comic books, fascinated by the colorful drawings and witty tales.  Being an only child, she often drew pictures and wrote stories to amuse herself.  As a budding artist, Wallner watched her mother painting and felt tremendously influenced by her.

Thus after high school, Wallner attended Pratt Institute and graduated with both B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees.  For employment she began working in the art departments of magazines, learning much.  When her illustrator husband started his own studio, Wallner joined him by writing and illustrating children's books, most notably picture-book biographies of women.  Wallner creates her own books, assists her husband on projects, and provides the artwork for other authors.  As she grows as an artist and author, Wallner enjoys sharing her knowledge with budding writers.  She teaches writing and illustrating at the summer conference of the International Women's Writing Guild, and she mentors high school girls with their writing projects.  Actively learning and paying close attention to detail in her work, Wallner continues to earn many positive reviews.
