This workbook begins a formal study of phonics— starting with short vowel sounds and logically progressing through consonants, long vowels, and beyond. Drill, repetition,
and writing activities are used to ensure comprehension.
The teacher’s manual provides the purpose and lesson (in addition to the answers) for each page of the workbook. It also indicates when each of the Kindergarten Readers
should be introduced to the student.
The Flashcards and Charts include charts of various rules (i.e. "short vowel o words", "Short vowel words that end in ck"), while the cards themselves help to introduce the
upper-case and lower-case letters of the alphabet as well as the sounds they make. Special information is also printed on the back of some of the cards to help students
understand consonant blends.
