Life can get busy. And with a smartphone at your side there's always the option to have media constantly streaming past your eyeballs. Maybe you're tired of being a consumer and never a creator, but you don't have the energy or skill for traditional creative endeavors. Maybe you want to do something relaxing now and then, but you can only take so many bubble baths. If you feel the need to slow down and create, you aren't alone. Some are fighting back against busyness with... coloring books.
Yes, coloring books aren't just for kids anymore. We'll admit it: we like this trend. We carry over 400 coloring book titles for children, but only just recently decided to start carrying their adult counterparts. Adult coloring books are more complex than children's books, and they generally have tear-out pages for display. One of the big differences is that adult coloring books have more intricate designs with smaller details, and of course they have just as many interesting themes as children's books. Right now we primarily carry the Creative Havens series from Dover, which features a plethora of appealing designs at around six dollars apiece. (Cheaper than therapy!)
True art therapy, of course, involves actively creating, but there's certainly something therapeutic about the scratching of colored pencils on paper, the small deliberate movements, and the freedom of choosing colors. We aren't going to tell you that they actually have the myriad health benefits that some people claim. But they may help you relax, breathe, be creative, and take a quiet moment in the middle of your otherwise busy life.
