Saint Aurelius Augustine

Saint Aurelius Augustine

Saint Augustine was born on November 13th, A.D. 354, in Tagaste (modern Souk Ahras, Algeria), and died almost seventy-six years later in Hippo. In the years between, he devoted himself to the mastery of the texts of scripture, becoming a formidable theologian.

We know Saint Augustine of Hippo best for his debate with Pelagius over man's nature. Many years later, Calvin and Luther drew from that debate and what Augustine said to form their own opinions and theology. Augustine is frequently quoted and sourced today in many debates including the debate between Reformed vs. Arminian theology over predestination. Few christians next to Paul the Apostle had close to the effect on philosophy and theology that Augustine has had.
