Richard D. Heffner

Richard D. Heffner, founder of the television program The Open Mind, has for fifty years attempted to present recent history from the standpoint of leading figures of the time. He was born in New York City in 1925, and has had a longtime involvement in teaching and the film industry. He graduated with honors from Columbia University, and from there took his training in history and political science to such colleges as Berkeley, Columbia, and Rutgers. Also interested in communications and public policy, Heffner contiunes to write voraciously as well as deliver lectures worldwide. All areas of the media, from television to news journals and books. He is married to Dr. Elaine Heffner, a lecturer at Cornell University Medical College as well as a psychotherapist in private practice. They have two grown sons. Heffner is currently a professor at Rutgers, both host and producer of The Open Mind, and is the author of As They Saw It and Documentary History of the United States.
