The Pinkish, Purplish, Bluish Egg

A bird's chicks grow up and fly away. So she goes to a cave to cry, but finds an egg. Squirrels lift the egg into a nest for her and she sits on it. But something unusual comes out of the egg when it hatches. I like this book because the creature does the unexpected.
