Is this a Full Unit or Mini Unit? North America is a Full Unit. Our Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.

Explore North America like you never have before! Another book in our Connecting Continents series, students will explore features, food, amazing facts, animals, and so much more as they tour Canada, the United States, AND some of the other amazing countries that call this continent home!

Our "writing project" for this unit is an oral presentation. Younger students have some visuals to cut out in the appendix while older students are learning about making an outline, proving their point, and articulating their opinion/information. Grammar focus for younger students is verb tenses while older ones focus on proper hyphen usage.

How long are units designed to last? Each unit is designed to be 4-6 weeks. Our main units and most of our mini units include 20 lessons and can be done as a 4-day school week (lasting 5 weeks) or a 5-day school week (lasting 4 weeks) to offer flexibility. You're in control! Set a schedule that works best for your family and your pace will dictate how quickly you complete any given unit.

The North America Cursive Writing Book has the Bible verses (in ESV) from the Upper Elementary North America Unit, as well as the spelling words from that level for extra practice. Also included are character traits, capital cities and a couple of simple writing activities where your child will get to use their imagination, have fun and put their new skills to work!

The North America Recipe Book includes 20 different recipes (1 for every lesson) to help you taste your way through North America! With an image for every recipe in the book, you're sure to be excited about trying each and every recipe!

There is a weekly shopping list that is organized for you to make prep easy and fun! Recipes were chosen based on ingredients that could be found and easy-to-understand instructions. You can do a recipe a day OR a feast each week and use it as your sharing time/discussion time on what you learned that week or what your kids wrote. If you really want to run with it, choose a cultural movie each week, eat your feast, and have a family movie night to really immerse yourself in the culture!
