The Big Move
July 15, 2008 - October 15, 2008
This picture was taken on April 1, 2008, 10 years after Eli first started running Exodus. We had no idea what changes were in store for us shortly!
On the way home from the curriculum fair in June we noticed this building with its "Space Available" sign. "We should look into that," we told ourselves and quickly forgot about it.
Then a customer (who happened to be a realtor) asked if we were thinking of moving to a bigger location. All we had to do was mention this place and she was ready to get us a tour.
God opened the door and pushed us through, too.
This is what the inside looked like as we bagan preparing it to house our bookstore.
There is an unfinished attic above our entire space. Lots of room for storage!
Soon we got a sign put up.
New floors were put in.
Amanda delighted in picking out paint colors and her mother and sister joined her in painting all the walls. (Thanks so much!)
We built lots of new shelves to fill up the new space.
There was lots of space for the kids to run around while we worked.
Meanwhile, the old Exodus was getting slowly packed up.
Customers and employees alike climbed over boxes during those last few weeks.
Even before closing time on Friday, October 3, moving began in earnest. Nearly 70 generous friends, family, and employees came to help over the two days! We were blown away. Thanks to everyone!
Saturday morning, October 4, began bright and early and by dinner time most of the store was transfered.
Moving our custom built solid oak desk was probably the biggest task.
Some of our help needed to take a break.
These rooms had been Exodus for so many years. Seeing them empty was a strange sight!
We spent the next week and a half organizing and setting up.
On October 15, the new location was officially open for business! Click here to see a tour of the new store.
