If any game could topple every Communist regime in the world, Pit would be the one. It shows that capitalism can be fun and gives you an excuse to yell your brains out trying to buy and sell commodities. Even Karl would have loved this game.

Basically, you're trying to become a tycoon by getting a corner on a particular market. Commodity cards represent agricultural concerns like wheat, oats, soybeans, sugar and coffee, which players wheel and deal during each round. When you've got all the cards of a particular type, ring the bell and the hand is yours.

The "bull" and "bear" cards (representing the market trends of the same names) can help you win, but they can also spell your doom. The bull is a wild card and can help you get your corner, but get stuck with either of them at the end of a hand and you lose.

Players who can't stand noise or chaos will hate Pit. Everyone else (that is, normal people) will have as much fun as a game rooted in economics can be. Which, as it turns out, is very very fun. All the cutthroat craziness of capitalism is distilled into a deck of cards and a little silver bell, with the singular advantage that your real assets are in no danger of being squandered on the floors of Wall Street.

Review by C. Hollis Crossman
C. Hollis Crossman used to be a child. Now he's a husband and father who loves church, good food, and weird stuff. He might be a mythical creature, but he's definitely not a centaur. Read more of his reviews here.
