This is a fabulously illustrated African variation on the Cinderella story. Though both Mufaro’s daughters are beautiful, they have very different characters. While Nyasha is kind, Manyara is nearly always in a bad temper and is jealous that everybody praises Nyasha for her kindness. So when the great King invites all the most worthy and beautiful daughters to come so that he may choose one of them to be his wife, Manyara is determined to get to his palace before Nyasha and become queen. On their separate journeys to the king’s palace, the strength of both Nyasha and Manyara’s characters will be tested by the king himself. Who will pass the tests, and what will they each find when the reach the king’s palace?
