A Frenchman, Tavitian received a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Paris VI, an engineering degree from Ecole Centrale in Paris, a doctorate in biophysics from the University of Paris VI, and has held a post-doctoral position at Yale University's biochemistry department. Also a painter and a musician, Tavitian searched one day for the perfect frame to set off his newly finished painting of an orchestra with geometric figures. He decided on shapes, then added colors, combined it with a mathematical theorem and realized he had created the principals for a board game,
Blokus. Challenging and entertaining,
Blokus has excited many people. It is sold in 35 countries, and because of this overwhelming attention, Tavitian has continued to invent over 30 games, many of which are award-winning. He lives and plays in Paris.
