Barbara Robinson was born on October 24, 1927 and grew up in the small town of Portsmouth, Ohio on the Ohio River. Her father died when she was three. Robinson's mother, a schoolteacher in Portsmouth for forty-nine years, fostered her interest in books and Barbara began writing very early. She attended Allegheny College and received an honorary doctorate of letters from that college. She currently lives in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia and has two daughters, Carolyn (a nurse), and Marjorie (a sixth-grade teacher) as well as three grandchildren: Tomas, Marcos, and Lucas.
Barbara Robinson has written several books for children, including My Brother Louis Measures Worms, The Best School Year Ever, and the critically acclaimed and enormously popular The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1972), which is now a classic TV movie as well as a play that is produced annually in theaters, schools, and churches all over the country. In addition to her children's books, Robinson has published dozens of short stories in magazines such as McCall's and Ladies Home Journal, and has also written plays and poetry.
