Summer Reads (as recommended by the Exodus Staff)

Eli recommends: Give Your Child the World
"We've been adding the books from this list into our website. It's about opening up your child's mind to other perspectives. Especially right now we all need to be listening to perspectives that are not our own."
Eli is currently reading: One Thousand Gifts
"I've been discouraged lately and am feeling the need to reset my perspective and be more grateful. Voskamp's focus on being thankful even during suffering is a viewpoint I needed to hear."

Rhiannon recommends: The Mabinogion
"This Welsh book is one of the most interesting and overlooked traditional myth cycles. It's also where my name comes from. Caution: you probably won't be able to pronounce anyone else's name."
Rhiannon is planning on reading: Tuesdays at the Castle
"I haven't read any modern children's books in a long time, so I'm a little behind the times. People keep asking me what I think of this series so I want to be able to give an opinion."

Lauren recommends: One Crazy Summer
"This book is an emotional gut punch. Three girls go to California to spend the summer with the mother who abandoned them. Why would a mother leave her children? The answer is poignant and complicated. The ending made me cry."
Lauren is currently reading: My Utmost for His Highest
"This fantastic devotional is hard-hitting on the theme of wholehearted surrender to the love of God. Unlike some lighter devotionals, this is real and meaty."

Emily recommends: The Martian
"This is one of the best hard-science science fiction books I've ever read. It's also immensely funny. It will have you laughing out loud in the middle of a public place. Be warned that it uses some language that is not for tender ears."
Emily is planning on reading: Whales on Stilts!
"I love the title. It's so shocking I have to read it. Whales on Stilts with an exclamation point!"

Maddie recommends: Little Women
"It's a classic. I love it because I grew up in a family of girls like the March sisters. If you have lots of sisters you'll enjoy it."
Maddie is planning on reading: Moby Dick
"Whales and ships. What's not to love? I mainly want to read this because I watched In the Heart of the Sea, which Moby Dick is based on. I had never really gotten into whalers before that, but then I realized 'whalers are cool!'"

Sydney recommends: The Help
"I love The Help! It's interesting, funny, and intriguing. I like that it gives me a perspective into a world I never knew existed."
Sydney is currently reading: Endurance
"I chose this book because it's on the Outside of a Dog booklist and a list I have for college reading. I don't often read biographical adventure stories, but this has actually been really interesting and not so dry."

Logic of English
We can't sell this online, but we're in the process of writing a review.
More organized and teacher-friendly than Spell to Write and Read,
this curriculum aims to prove that English is not illogical.
It's multi-sensory and very thorough.
If you're stopping by the store you can take a look!
