This level covers grammar (with diagramming), poetry, book study, creative writing (including a short story), topic studies, speech making, and research papers. It uses passages from Black Beauty, The Borrowers, and Eight Cousins as a foundation for study in many lessons. Other lessons (which should take a few weeks each) require the reading of the books and play listed below.
Writing and grammar receive more attention at this level than do others topics. The writing lessons are well-developed. Reading skills are taught explicitly, while vocabulary, spelling, and study and research skills are integrated into lessons.
The Christianity of this series is more evident in this book: it includes more Psalms, and uses Adam and His Kin, a retelling of the first part of Genesis.
Literature used in this book (in order):
-
Star of Light
-
Adam and His Kin
-
Much Ado About Nothing
