The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Low Church Anglican bishop, born near Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, studied at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford. After college pastored several lesser known churches, then in 1871 made honorary dean of Norwich. In 1880 nominated by Lord Beaconsfield as dean of Salisbury. Before he had taken office he was made the first bishop of the newly organized diocese of Liverpoool; filled with marked industry and fidelity this responsible office to the year of his death two decades later. Wrote more than one hundred tracts and pamphlets on doctrinal and practical subjects which enjoyed a wide circulation, both in English and in foreign languages. Published a number of books of sermons and devotional literature. Thoroughly evangelical in doctrine; one of the most prominent members of the evangelical party. John Charles Ryle's son, Herbert Edward Ryle (1856-1925), was Bishop of Winchester and also a noted theological writer.
