Italian

Italian is a Romance language spoken by about 63 million people, primarily in Italy.Standard Italian is based on Tuscan and was adopted as the official state language after national unification in 1870. In Switzerland, it is one of four official languages. The Italian vocabulary closely resembles that of Latin. It is affectionately called il parlar gentile (the gentle language) by its speakers.
