Driving on Monday

On Sunday we spent a delightful day fellowshipping with the saints of Christ the King Church - Sacramento.  We attended the service, partook of their fellowship potluck, and met lots of the church members.  After church, we spent the afternoon at Sally and David Stoos's house.  Sally and I had a cup of tea, played with Sam, and played a game of Five Crowns while Eli and David tried their hands at Halo 2.  We all got together and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory before heading over to the elder Stoos's for "Popcorn and Politics".  Lots of people from the church gathered together on the Stoos's front porch to eat popcorn, drink margaritas or beer, smoke cigars, and talk about everything from football to theology to labor and delivery stories.  And thus ended a very enjoyable Lord's Day.

Monday was the day for saying good bye to our friends in Sacramento.  Before we left, Eli went to buy books from Chris Hoops, a man who goes to Christ the King Church.  He had a book store that closed down and Eli was able to take a good chunk of his excess inventory off his hands.  While Eli was doing that and David was at work, Sally and I enjoyed spending the morning talking together.  All too soon Eli returned and it was time to load our baggage into the book-laden car and say farewell.

Then we headed north to Hwy. 101.  Our plan was to stay the night in Garberville, just south of the Avenue of the Giants, a scenic highway that takes visitors through the Redwoods.

Along the way, we drove around this beautiful lake.  Every time we stopped to take a picture, the slow people that we'd just managed to pass would get in front of us again.  We were forced to remember that it's not about the destination, it's about the journey getting there.  So we sat back, put on some music, and enjoyed the view.
