This book is perfect for kids that need lots of repetition! I used it with my daughter with learning disabilities, as well as with my kindergarten classes in our homeschool co-op. The pictures are childlike and interesting to kids. The print is large and easy to read. The activities vary from page to page and the instructions are illustrated as well as written out so that kids can do this book on their own, which they really enjoy! Book 1 1/2 provides further practice with the same concepts this book covers and is really helpful for most kids. I would make sure kids know all of their short vowels and consanants before beginning this series. It is perfect for kids to gain confidence with sounding out words and sentences! The Before the Code books cover the consanants and can be used first. You should still cover the vowels separately before beginning this book, though. I highly recommend this series!
