Nearly one hundred of his best and most representative poems have been selected for this volume including "Fog", "Cool Tombs", "The Harbor", and "I am the People, the Mob" as well as many lesser known but equally excellent poems such as "Crimson Rambler", "Jabberers", and "Chamfort." Written in Sandburg's characteristically powerful free verse, all the poems in this volume are important for their realistic portrayal of the struggle of working people, and for their focus on the lyric beauty of the modern urban landscape.
