While you could conceivably make it through Wheelock's Latin without this workbook (which corresponds to the 6th edition), the exercises found here will more sufficiently illustrate the information studied in the text. Forty workbook chapters correspond directly to the forty chapters of the student text; each page is consumable and perforated for hand-in assignments. Conceived by French professor Paul Comeau, the aim of the workbook is not simply to reiterate, but rather to supplement and expand the material covered in the student text.

While there is plenty of written work in Wheelock's itself, the exercises found here are specifically designed to heighten students' proficiency. The emphasis is still on translation (both from Latin to English and English to Latin), but these exercises are supplemented with transformation drills, reading comprehension questions, "Word Power" sections focused on vocabulary and derivatives, and more. Instructions are mostly in English, though comprehension questions always appear in Latin, and there are Latin sentences interspersed among the English directions.

There is no print answer key or teacher guide for the workbook, and answers are not included in the back. An answer key exists online, but with limited access. Of course a thorough study of the student text will provide all answers, but that's a pretty time-consuming solution. Until a print answer key exists the workbook will only prove partly useful (if students get answers wrong, how will they know?)—we recommend possible substituting it with A Comprehensive Guide to Wheelock's Latin, which doesn't include a lot of exercises but excellently supports the most important material in the student text.
