Painless Geometry

Geometry is one of the most visual mathematical fields. In Painless Geometry, therefore, you'll find almost as many lines, diagrams and illustrations as you will pages filled with text. That's not to suggest there isn't enough explanation—author Lynette Long ably demonstrates each concept in witty, clear prose amply supported with step-by-step examples.

As a book intended for middle and high school students, this isn't a complete geometry course. It can be used as an introductory or remedial text, or as support for a more traditional program (especially if your kids are having a hard time grasping the material). Each problem is fully exemplified, and exercises with answers allow students to put into practice their new knowledge.

This is really and actually a fun book. Geometry is one of the least frightening mathematical disciplines anyway because it is so concrete, but here it becomes fun largely because it loses its mystique. If students flip to the back of Painless Geometry they might be tempted to despair, but if they work through each chapter carefully they'll be fluent in circumference and hypotenuse in no time.
