  A Sweet Story
Beatrix Taverne of Monroe, WA, 7/19/2016
India Opal Boloni’s mother left her when she was three, and now Opal has moved with her father from Watley to Naomi Florida so he can preach at the Open Arms Baptist Church, leaving all her friends.
She runs to the Winn-Dixie department store, and there she meets a mutt making a tremendous ruckus. She takes the dog home and names him ‘winn-dixie’. Winn-Dixie helps her meet friends, if slightly eccentric ones, who, in most cases, have had their own lives tinted with melancholy.
She meets Gloria Dump, the Dewberry twins, Sweetie-Pie Thomas, Amanda Wilkins, and Franny Block. When she and her friends plan a party, and a storm comes up, she thinks she has lost Winn-Dixie. She finds him again and realizes that some things you should let go.
This is a sweet story about a girl and her dog who forge a great bond. This book is well-written and enjoyable. It goes fast, yet leaves you thinking, though satisfied. It is written in first-person narrative, and with a slight southern accent.
