Two Sides... or at Least Two Styles
Sincerelyornot of Oregon, 10/13/2011
You've heard the saying, "there are two sides to every story." In this series, there is a whole different style, and it might called, "if boys were into diaries, these are the kinds of things they would write about." The author manages to write of events in detail while giving the reader the impression that the "author" has better things to do than write (mud wrestling, gun inspection, etc). The style is reluctant, almost hesitant, as if writing is a girl thing that we're only indulged in for the sake of the historical significance of these events. Don't expect a pro-southern slant, but the street-level view of the battles is exquisitely penned and well worth your time.
