In The War on the Poor, Dr. Clarence B. Carson describes how the welfarist programs, sometimes described by their advocates as a War on Poverty, have been in practice a war on the poor. He demonstrates the disastrous effects on the poor—on farmers and small businessmen, or urban dwellers and wage earners—of the very programs intended to aid them. Originally published in 1969, The War on the Poor has been updated in 1991 with two new chapters and is newly indexed.
