Trees are very nice. They fill up the sky.
In this 1957 Caldecott medal winner Janice May Udry tells us some of the reasons that trees are nice. The prose is simple and childlike, and Marc Simont's pleasant illustrations nicely complement it. He shows children and people enjoying trees as Udry's words tell of babies napping in shade, children picking apples, trees shielding houses from the wind and sun. The book is a unique thin rectangular shape that highlights all the trees. The gentle prose and funny illustrations may just give young readers the urge to go outside and play in their own trees, and that is very nice indeed.
