This is one of those quiet, gentle nature stories, similar to Robert McCloskey's Time of Wonder. Nature is poetically, wonderfully described as the seasons change on one small island. Not much action happens besides that, other than a somewhat strange dialogue between a visiting kitten and the island. The kitten threatens to kill and eat a fish if it doesn't explain how the island is connected to land. It's certainly not action-packed, but it is lyrical and atmospheric with gentle illustrations.

Lauren Shearer writes words for fun and profit. She also makes films, but everyone knows you can't make a profit doing that. Her other hobby is consistently volunteering way too much of her time. You can read more of her reviews here.
