With a strong understanding of American history, your teenage child is now ready to tackle American Government. Core 400 is dedicated to teaching your child the history and functions of our country’s government while helping them think critically and maintain a Christian worldview. As your child is getting older and starts thinking about life after high school, Core 400 is the perfect tool to prepare them for the real world. Tough question are asked and different sides of important issues are presented. Though the answers are not fed or preached, Core 400 helps guide your child to the right conclusions. From studying the Constitution to reading The Giver, high schoolers will receive insights and convictions that will last them their whole lives.
The primary text for Core 400 is Basic American Government, which provides the history and a study of the Constitution. The other components of your civics program (books like Never Before in History and Godless Constitution) round out your child’s understanding of our government by presenting all sides of specific issues that our nation has struggled through. In the American literature program, Core 400 hits classic books that everyone should know. From The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn to Moby Dick to The Scarlet Letter, your child will get to read and discuss the best works of literature America has produced. A collection of biographies such as Up From Slavery and Where the Broken Heart Still Beats add depth and a greater understanding of the history that is being studied. A challenging Bible program encourages students to stand firm in what they believe, and a fully integrated language arts program further develops writing and research skills.
These final years of high school are important. You want to make sure your child is well prepared for the real world and is firmly grounded in the faith. Core 400 is your key to a fruitful and rigorous high school education, one that will guide your students on their way to becoming articulate and well-grounded members of society.
Please Note: Sonlight Curriculum does not sell their materials to Exodus Books. We carry many of the same titles, and are often able to obtain used copies of books they publish. The following is culled from their 2013 website and includes most of their selection, though it is not comprehensive, nor is it in any sort of curricular order. For a complete listing, visit the Sonlight Curriculum website.
