Sonlight Core 300

By age 16, your child should by now have a good knowledge of world history. Using Sonlight, you’ve given your child an understanding not only of the people and events of times past but have also taught them to think critically and understand the thoughts and philosophies of history. In past Cores, Sonlight has held off from exploring the 20th century, but with Core 300, there are no more boundaries. World War II, The Great Depression, The Cold War, and all the complex and fascinating events of this past century are fully explored in this challenging Core.

The Visual History of the Modern World provides the backbone for Core 300. With pictures, timelines, articles and more, this vibrant and comprehensive volume provides a great overview of the conflicts and harsh realities of the 20th century. Supplementing this overview is a collection of biographies, novels, and classics to help further develop your child’s understanding of the people and events of the 20th century. Books likeThe Hiding Place, Brave New World, and The Great Gatsby are essential for a good understanding both of modern culture and life in the 20th century. A fully integrated Bible program includes books like Know What You Believe and Mere Christianity to help your child grow in the faith and learn to defend it. Also included is a language arts program that focuses on developing literary analysis, creative writing, research, and essay skills.

This is a challenging Core. The events of the 20th century, one of the most violent of all history, are intense and brutal. There’s no way around it. But with these excellent hand-picked books, aided by your Instructor’s Guide, your child will get a well-balanced, godly view of this complex Century.

Please Note: Sonlight Curriculum does not sell their materials to Exodus Books. We carry many of the same titles, and are often able to obtain used copies of books they publish. The following is culled from their 2013 website and includes much of their selection, though it is not comprehensive, nor is it in any sort of curricular order. For a complete listing, visit the Sonlight Curriculum website.
