Dive into a new year of high school with Core 200’s unique program. This year the focus is on the history of the Church. Beginning with the Old Testament and continuing down to the modern ages, Core 200 journeys through history with the focus on the great story of Christianity as it develops over the centuries. Core 200 continues to help your child develop their faith and worldview as they as you learn about the Church and the great influence she has had on history.
Written by both a Catholic Priest and a Protestant Scholar, The Story of Christianity, the foundation of Core 200, represents a balanced view of the histories of both Western and Eastern churches without being hugely biased either way. Though Sonlight, like Exodus, is protestant, the fact that a catholic co-wrote this book ensures that content is fully detailed with all the facts laid out. Filling in any gaps this broad overview of church history might have are books like From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya, Church of the East, and What If Jesus Had Never Been Born to provide a more detailed perspective on specific events and time periods.
Because of the unique focus of this year’s history program, the literature is not connected to the history. Instead, Core 200 is free to introduce your child to a treasure-store of classics. From The Best of Father Brown to some Shakespeare’s greatest works to Jane Eyre to the Screwtape Letters, this year’s literature course is rich with the world’s best written works. Core 200 also includes fully integrated literature and bible programs designed help you child become articulate about what they believe and give them the tools to defend it. With your Instructor’s Guide, newly improved, complete with lesson plans and discussion questions, you’re all set for an exciting and enjoyable year of Church history.
Please Note: Sonlight Curriculum does not sell their materials to Exodus Books. We carry many of the same titles, and are often able to obtain used copies of books they publish. The following is culled from their 2013 website and includes much of their selection, though it is not comprehensive, nor is it in any sort of curricular order. For a complete listing, visit the Sonlight Curriculum website.
