Currently professor and chairman for the history department at Yeshiva University, Albert Marrin has garnered quite a following for his many books dealing with American and world history.
Born on July 24 in 1936 to Louis and Frieda Marrin, Albert lived most of his life in New York City. He attended City College (now the City College of the City Universtiy of New York), earning his Bachelor's Degree in 1958. The next year he recieved his Masters in Education from Yeshiva University (a Jewish school, founded in 1928, and recognized as an educational leader around the world). That same year, in November, he married Yvette Rappaport. While continuing his education, Marrin taught social studies at Howard Taft High School in New York City. After completing another Masters and beginning work on a Ph.D. at Columbia University, he began teaching as an assistant history professor at Yeshiva University. About this same time he wrote his first book, War and the Christian Conscience: Augustine to Martin Luther King Jr., a scholarly work for adults. Several years later, in 1978, he became a full-fledged professor and gained the chairmanship of Yeshiva's history department, where he still teaches.
After his first publication, Marrin continued writing. His first book for young people The Airman's War: World War II in the Sky was published in 1982. Since then he has written many historical books for older children, on subjects ranging from ancient Incas to the Vietnam War. He has also authored several more books (mostly biographies) for adults.
Many of Albert Marrin's books are related to wartime events and great leaders. He endeavors to present all sides of every story, in a very organized and logical fashion. The perspective of the privates and civilians are just as important to him as that of kings and generals. His most recent books have focused on even younger readers, with subjects ranging from dinosaurs to endangered buffalo. Marrin has recieved numerous awards for his excellent writing, including several Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor Book Awards.
Albert and his wife have been married since 1959, and currently live in New York. For more information on this author, you can visit his website.
